Ratings: The Shallow in the Deep

Thursday's ratings offered a mixed bag of ups and downs: CBS fell compared to last week but still led across the board for the night. ABC was down some too as "Private Practice" came back to earth, but NBC was up slightly -- at least for now. The network's Baltimore affiliate aired an NFL game between the Ravens and Atlanta Falcons that is skewing the numbers somewhat.

In the network race, CBS led by a wide margin, averaging 12.7 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/13 share in households. ABC (7.8 million, 5.2/9) came in second, beating out FOX (7 million, 4.2/7). NBC's 5.6 million viewers and 3.4/6 were good enough to capture fourth place. The CW dipped a little compared to last week with 2.9 million viewers and a 1.8/3.

CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 3.0 rating, beating out ABC's 2.7. NBC finished third at 2.4, followed by FOX at 2.1 and The CW at 1.2.

The hourly numbers:

8 p.m.

CBS: "The Big Bang Theory" (13.1 million viewers, 7.7/13 households)/"$#*! My Dad Says" (9.7 million, 5.9/9)
FOX: "Bones" (9.15 million, 5.4/9)
NBC: "Community" (4.9 million, 3.0/5)/"30 Rock" (5.7 million, 3.5/6)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" rerun (4 million, 2.8/4)
The CW: "The Vampire Diaries" (3.5 million, 2.1/3)

18-49 leader: "The Big Bang Theory" (4.2)
